Sadly no photos of the elusive beast as of yet (that’s the original Desire pictured above), but the guys over at SuperETrader have some rumored specs to go along with a rumored October launch date in the UK for the HTC Desire HD (previously known as the HTC Ace).
As the title suggests the three big bullet points here are a .6″ jump in screen size for those that were feeling a little constrained on their original Desire, a 3 MP bump for the camera which will also boast 720p video recording, and despite the Desire name this device will also reportedly carry some Legend DNA as it borrows the unibody aluminum construction from the Legend that so many users fell in love with.
The partially metallic Motorola Droid and now Droid X are touted as having a more solid feel than some of their plastic competition, but unibody aluminum is taking it to a whole new level.
Check below for the full rundown of rumored specs, notably missing is any mention of a front facing camera or HDMI out on this otherwise very Evo-ish handset.
Anyone excited at the prospect of a super sized HTC Desire/Legend hybrid?
- 4.3 inch WVGA Touch Screen
- 8 Megapixel Camera
- 1 GHZ Qualcomm Processor
- Android 2.2 OS
- HD 720p Video Capture
- Xvid Video Playback
- SRS Surround Sound
- Automatic Face Tracking
- Adobe Flash 10.1 Support
- 4GB Internal Memory (up to 32GB)
- E-book Reader Feature
- Unibody Aluminium Design

The Samsung Vibrant (a Galaxy S phone) has finally launched in the United States. T-Mobile is the first carrier to release a Galaxy S phone and will most likely look to take advantage of their early launch to get a few steps ahead of their competition. The Samsung Vibrant is without a doubt the most advanced Android powered phone on T-Mobile’s network. The handset features a 4 inch capacitive Super AMOLED Display, 1GHz Hummingbird processor, 1500mAh lithium ion battery, 5MP camera with 720p video recording, 2GB microSD card preloaded with the movie Avatar, the new SIMS game from EA, all running on Android 2.1.
T-Mobile is selling the Samsung Vibrant for $199 after instant discounts and a $50 mail-in rebate card. Customers taking advantage of T-Mobile’s Even More Plus plans will have to pony up $499 in order to get their hands on the Samsung Vibrant. If you are looking to save a little bit of cash, keep in mind that you can pick up the Samsung Vibrant from our online store for as little as $149 without needing to hassle with the rebate.
Even though the Samsung Vibrant could give the DROID X (which is also launching today) a run for its money, T-Mobile doesn’t seem at all interested in hyping up the launch of the Samsung Vibrant. I made my way to two different T-Mobile stores today to see if there are any customers lined up to make their purchase of the new smartphone. Both stores were pretty desolate and neither of them had any display units or promotional materials out for their customers to see. I had to ask a sales rep about the phone. He returned with a new Vibrant a few minutes later and casually mentioned “I guess we should get this display unit set up.”
My fear is that the lackluster launch at T-Mobile could also be repeated at the other carriers since the Galaxy S is technically not an exclusive phone for any other them even though they all have their own names and subtle features differences. The only phone that truly stands out in the mix is the Samsung Epic 4G which is heading to Sprint. So… how many of you picked up the T-Mobile Samsung Vibrant today and was your experience at the T-Mobile store any different than mine?

Two of the summer’s hottest Android phones are now on sale for a special introductory price.
The T-Mobile Vibrant and Verizon Droid X both offer 45nm processors, which offer a new level of performance and reduced power consumption. There are always faster devices around the corner, but these phones offer a nice performance boost over the Snapdragon based phones and they will get even faster once Android 2.2 is released.
Recent big launches from HTC have sold out quickly, but Verizon claims they will have plenty of Droid X phones and Samsung also thinks they can meet demand for the Galaxy S.
You can rush to your local retail store and wait in line this morning to pick up either phone or you can quickly order from our online store. Through our partnership with Simplexity we are able to offer these phones at special online pricing, so take advantage of it while you can.
T-Mobile Samsung Vibrant: New customers can pick up the Vibrant for $149 with 2-year contract. Exiting users who are eligible for an upgrade can also receive the special pricing. I believe our contract pricing is the lowest you will find, but if you want to grap the phone off-contract for full price then T-Mobile.com has it for $499.
Verizon Motorola Droid X: If you are on Verizon and interested in the Droid X, then you will have to click to see pricing. The offer is a special introductory price, so hurry while the phone is in stock. Quantities are limited. Those looking to pick the phone up off-contract can grab the Droid X for $569 from Verizon.com.

I’m still not sure how useful this is, but the Samsung Galaxy S line of phones are TV out capable.
This wouldn’t be the first time an Android phone has video out options because both the Droid X and HTC EVO have HDMI ports, but the Galaxy S is different because it mirrors everything displayed on your phone (instead of limiting you to select applications).
In order to get this feature to work all you need is a mini stereo (3.5 mm) to RCA video cable. Your local Best Buy or Radio Shack might have them, but your best bet is to order online. I picked up my cables from Amazon for under $5
. I have also read that iPod 4G video cables will work as well.
Getting the video out running was simple and it only requires a single toggle in the display settings. Once it is turned on you should see video and hear audio right away. My video quality wasn’t the best, but text was still sharp and I had no problems using any of the apps.
To better explain the process, I filmed a quick demonstration that shows how easy it was to setup.
Playing around with my phone hooked to my TV was cool for awhile, but I quickly grew bored of it. This experience gives you a weird twisted idea of what Google TV might look like when running apps, but who wants to hold a phone attached to a six foot cable. Thankfully you can still beam music, pictures, and videos to your TV over WiFi (if it supports DLNA).
After testing this out I doubt I will really go back to it, but I guess it’s still a cool feature that some people might find useful. What kind of ideas can you come up with for using your Android phone with your TV?

The Motorola DROID X may be launching at Verizon stores across the the country tomorrow morning, but we thought you might be interested in some pictures of the phone and our first impressions. We can definitely say that the DROID X is one of the best Android options from Verizon and the fastest phone from Motorola to date.
Personally, I’m not a huge fan of phones with extra large screens. My main complaint about the EVO 4G was the size and I was a bit taken aback when I heard that the DROID X was even larger. However, the sharp angles on the DROID X actually make the phone feel smaller in the hand than the HTC EVO 4G.
The custom UI on the DROID X is actually quite impressive. Most Android fans have pretty harsh words for Motorola’s MotoBLUR, but we’re pretty sure that those who spend a few minutes with the DROID X will walk away with a smile on their face. The phone still has all the social integration features found on other Motorola phones, but the UI has been toned down a little, making it less intrusive. One of the coolest features is the ability to re-size the majority of Motorola’s widgets so that you can customize your home screen to the way to really want it.
We will be playing around with the DROID X quite a bit over the next few days, so be sure to check back in. A full review, benchmark breakdown, and a few other posts will be coming soon, but if you’ve already made up your mind on the DROID X, don’t forget that you can pick it up from our online store after midnight.
Hands-on with the Motorola DROID X

Back in May at Google I/O, Seesmic demonstrated a beta version of their popular Twitter client that featured (among other things) tight integration with the Google Buzz platform. This was of course at a time when Google Buzz was still relatively new(ish) and people were more frequently using the service.
Though the beta was meant to be only for folks who attended I/O, some generous folks shared the download link with the Android community so that everyone could try out this advancement of the Android platform. Because this was the first time an Android application was combining Twitter with another social media forum, excitement began to grow about the possibilities of having an all-in-one social media application.
Earlier today, Seesmic announced a 1.4 update for the Seesmic Android client which brings Android one step closer to achieving this dream. The 1.4 update allows users to both view and update their Twitter and Google Buzz feeds, right from the convenience of one solidly put together application.
Regardless of what Twitter client you personally use, I think we can all agree that Seesmic’s move toward an integration of multiple social media platforms is really a strong move in the right direction for Android. I for one would love to see an all-in-one application that allows me to manage Twitter, Facebook, Google Buzz, LinkedIn, and whatever other service I may happen to use. Hot on Seesmic’s heels however is TweetDeck, a popular multi-platform social media hub for PC who is feverishly working on bringing an Android application to the table soon.
So will this update set Seesmic one step ahead of the competition? Will it be enough to compete with the soon to be released/tested TweetDeck? Only time will tell. What we know for sure now is that Seesmic is a solid application that will allow you to manage both your Twitter and Google Buzz streams. It may just be enough to get me to switch back to Seesmic from the official Twitter for Android.
Will you be trying (or re-trying) Seesmic? Is it good enough to become your everyday Twitter client? Let us know in the comments.

Some U.S. carriers are launching their version of the Samsung Galaxy S this week, but Verizon customers will have to wait a little longer before they can get their hands on the device.
Verizon’s summer catalog leaked out yesterday and several people noticed that the Samsung Fascinate was mysteriously absent. We wondered if the phone might have been dropped (like the Nexus One) so we pinged Verizon to see if they could provide an update.
According to a Verizon spokesperson, the Fascinate is still coming but they have “not determined a date yet for the launch.” Verizon anticipates having the phone ready by “late summer or early fall,” but I have a feeling it will be the latter.
So what is the hold up? Most are speculating that Verizon is pushing the date back so it doesn’t directly compete with the big launch of the Droid X and Droid 2 this summer. The Fascinate is also the first Android phone to feature the new Microsoft Bing application, which we hear won’t be ready for another six weeks.
Hopefully we will get an official launch date soon, but I wouldn’t expect anything until after the Droid 2 hits stores (rumored for August 23rd).
We recently got to spend some brief time with the Fascinate at the Samsung Galaxy S launch party and captured a quick walkthrough of the phone.

Whether you like Motorola and Verizon, you have to admit they have one of the best marketing teams when it comes to promoting Android devices. Most of our friends still do not know what Android is, but if you ask them what DROID is (in a robotic voice) they instantly recognize the brand. Verizon is back at it again with a new teaser video for tomorrow’s Droid X launch. Check out the video after the jump and let us know what you think about the latest ad.
